Toronto Blue Jays Secure Fall Classic Matchup Against Los Angeles Dodgers
Springer was instrumental for the Astros winning the World Series in the 2017 season.
Toronto's Blue Jays reached their initial Fall Classic after 1993 by defeating the Seattle Mariners in the decisive seventh game of the ALCS.
Down by two runs, the star outfielder delivered a three-run home run in the seventh inning, guiding the only Canadian franchise in MLB to a 4-3 series victory in the best-of-seven series. Next up are the defending champions, the team that is the current crown, in the forthcoming World Series.
"I'm thrilled for everyone here, our city, the nation," Springer stated, a star of the Houston Astros team that secured the 2017 championship. "What an amazing experience."
Springer has now slugged 23 total October home runs, placing him third on the list behind Manny Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Jose Altuve (twenty-seven).
"There's probably not another person on planet Earth that I'd choose in that spot except for George Springer with his post-season brilliance," noted Blue Jays manager John Schneider.
Seattle's team, who had led the early in the series, continue to be the one club never to appear in a World Series.
Mariners manager Dan Wilson said "certainly that it's going to sting" after his club's elimination at their home ballpark, but commended their work in the campaign.
"This is a unique group. It's a shame that we finished on the wrong side of this one," he remarked.
The Blue Jays secured the title on each of their earlier trips in 1992 and '93, and will welcome the Dodgers in game one on Friday.
