The UK is prepared to move forward with employing the entire amount of seized Russian assets to bolster Ukraine's defense operations, Leader Sir Keir Starmer has announced.

In a joint statement, the leaders of the United Kingdom, France, and the Federal Republic of Germany emphasized that this unified step would escalate tension on Russian President Vladimir Putin and persuade Russia to engage in negotiations.

They further noted that the move would be executed in strong partnership with the United States.

United Kingdom restrictions have frozen in excess of £25bn of Russian funds since Russia launched its full-scale invasion against the Ukrainian nation in 2022. But, up to this point, funds provided to Ukraine using Russia's holdings had exclusively been drawn from gains and dividends generated on them.

Sir Keir assured Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky that the United Kingdom, France, and the Federal Republic of Germany were united in their desire to push forward toward employing the full value of the immobilized Russia's state holdings to end the war.

He noted that more measures over the next period would apply more pressure on Russia.

This statement is subsequent to European Union officials convened in the Danish capital last week to discuss employing immobilized Russia's funds for a €140 billion credit to the Ukrainian nation.

Last month, President Donald Trump encouraged G7 allies to seize or otherwise use seized Russia's holdings, according to news outlets.

The total of frozen Russian assets in the European Union is calculated to be nearly €211bn.

Russia executed large-scale bombardments throughout the Ukrainian territory on Friday, leading to power cuts in significant regions of Ukraine's capital, Kyiv, and several other zones.

A pair of individuals were lost their lives and a minimum of 20 people were injured in the attack, Ukrainian officials said.

In a post on X subsequent to the strike, Zelensky wrote that the strategic strike targeted public and utility structures.

"What is required is not just talk but firm measures - from the United States, the European Union, and the Group of Seven - in providing air defence systems and applying penalties," he emphasized.

"Every sanction decision undermines Moscow's military apparatus," Zelensky wrote, in a separate post.

Additionally that day, Zelensky stated to reporters he would press Sir Keir to enter the weapons procurement scheme, under which partner nations acquire weapons from the US to give to the Ukrainian forces.

While praising the United Kingdom's firm backing for Ukraine, he said it should send a clear signal that it would engage in the program, as well as apply more restrictions on Russia.
