The Renowned Musician Calls On Backing to Get Together for Palestine Lullaby to UK Christmas No 1.
A charity drive is aiming to launch a traditional song from Palestine to the peak of the festive singles chart. The campaign seeks to deliver assistance to people in Gaza while also highlighting Palestinian artistic heritage.
A Possibility for Solidarity and an "Unlikely Coup"
Renowned figure Brian Eno, who features on the track, stated that the single 'Lullaby' represents a moment to show solidarity with Palestinians over the Christmas period. He noted the potential for an unlikely festive coup.
“It would be incredible if that happened, yes,” he commented. “I won't be completely disheartened if it doesn’t, Christmas singles are a unique phenomenon.”
Powerful Theme of Freedom and Dignity
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who sings on the version of a cultural piece called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the track's resilient spirit.
“It occupies a very special place for countless listeners,” Barghouti shared. “The essence is that I would rather die in dignity than spend my life without freedom. This is the primary message of the song; we want to live a respectful existence that we merit as a people.”
Production History and Featured Artists
The song was recorded after a solidarity show held in September. Initially planned to be performed and recorded live, the piece was cut from the show due to time constraints.
The notable list of performers appearing on Lullaby features a range of prominent voices from the industry. All took part in the benefit event, which managed to collect a considerable total for charitable causes.
Creation and Launch
Lullaby was crafted by a trio of music creators. The single features a mix of the original Arabic with freshly written English words.
The group managing the project have stated that their aim is to collect the highest amount for a dedicated fund. These donations will be distributed to projects in Palestine through an non-profit partner.
“We haven't set a specific target,” a representative explained. “We’ll go for as much as possible. Of course, the higher the total, the greater the impact. It all goes out to the people of Gaza.”
The reality in the territory was noted for its extreme devastation, with a huge proportion of infrastructure said to be levelled or seriously harmed.
“In that context, a handful of millions doesn’t make an enormous impact. But I think what does make a difference is first of all raising awareness for this issue and proving the human dimension of the story.”
The track is scheduled for release this Friday. Additionally, a full recording of the benefit event will be made ready to watch on a popular streaming site from mid-December.
