The Porcine Pardon: Hog Named 6-7 Pardoned by Miami Dade County Mayor.
It might not have been at the identical stature as granting clemency to holiday birds, but the county's top official experienced a ceremonial pardon event this week by ritually sparing the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. She is worthy of this pardon. Her criminal record is spotless,” Levine Cava said in a speech with inescapable allusions to the vast quantity of pardons issued from the start of the beginning of a current administration.
“If we disregard eating six or seven apples per day,” she went on. “I hope she experiences a lengthy and joyful existence free from concern.”
The gathering, simultaneously observing and challenging the area's customary feast of eating roast pork during the holidays, was founded to mirror the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.
The pig, contributed by a local firefighter, was given its name from the popular vernacular phrase of young people yelling “six seven” – deriving from a rap song lyric – often seemingly at random. The craze became so pervasive that a leading lexicon site recently named “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year.
A Future Secured
The pardoned swine is now scheduled to spend its days at a countryside refuge “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the event’s official press release.
“The pig pardon has become a cherished method to begin the holiday season,” said the event host, in a decidedly positive message.
“It captures the spirit of Miami: vibrant, multicultural, and grounded in customs that foster togetherness. Annually, we are honored to observe culture and compassion in a way distinctively Miamian.”
Attendees enjoyed a vegetarian menu of croquettes and strong coffee as they toasted Six Seven’s big moment.
