The New Animated Series' Opening Sequence Chose the Wrong Critical Role Song

This latest animated series, the most recent animated series from Critical Role, revealed a new introductory sequence. It features the beloved group of outcasts, outcasts, and criminals fighting hard and taking names, while teasing at several agonizing backstories for key figures including Liam O'Brien's mage Caleb, and another actor's orc warlock, the character Fjord.

Overall, the intro appears amazing. However, I felt that an element was missing in the music selection.

The intro uses "Welcome to Wildemount", an exceptional composition created by producer and singer the talented musician. It's a track from the official score of that title, the second one put out by Critical Role Productions LLC's music division their music brand. It's a wonderful nostalgic option, and I believe that fans of the sequel series will love its presence.

Personally, The Mighty Nein's intro fails to capture the hype and excitement that was part of the show's live-play sessions. "Your Turn to Roll", composed by musician the artist, became an immediate hit in my view when it was first revealed in 2015, and it only got better when co-founder the performer added lyrics to the tune for the animated Campaign 2 opening in the later year.

Featuring vocals from Ashley Johnson, Laura Bailey, a co-star, as well as the writer, the song was catchy and enjoyable. Back then, I hadn't seen the second campaign yet, but this was such an earworm that I kept it on my device. This track that excites you before you dive into an installment of fantasy hijinks.

The Mighty Nein's opening with "Welcome to Wildemount" fails to hit the same chords in my opinion. It's an impressive piece of music, but from what I know of the group, I can't help but feel that its mood is a little off.

Of course, Critical Role has stated that the series will have a few surprises and differences from the original live sessions. A tonal change for its opening appears as one of them.

The Mighty Nein will be available to watch on Prime Video from November 19. If you can't wait until then, or wish to prepare to learn about the personas of Critical Role's Campaign 2, the actual play are accessible on Spotify and YouTube.
