Well, perhaps an Ashes series in Australia where they still have a chance to reclaim the urn after the first three Tests.

That will not be happening on this occasion, however, after Australia's crushing 82-run win in Adelaide left the home side leading three-nil for the fourth consecutive series on Australian grounds.

The Barmy Army, the vocal contingent, have a large group traveling for the concluding fixtures in New South Wales and Victoria.

There are also organized trips who will celebrate the holidays in Australia, as well as families and friends heading for a once-in-a-lifetime trip.

The Ryding Siblings

A group of four supporters are among those affected.

The four siblings had their travel arrangements and match passes arranged for the fourth and fifth Tests "well ahead of time", dreaming of a long-awaited triumph.

Instead, they have watched Australia dismantle the tourists in just 11 days from their residence in their hometown.

"All my colleagues has been making comments about it being over for the last two weeks," said Sam.

"We always thought that we would have the series on the line by the time we arrived."

Diminishing Hope

There was plenty of positivity about England's chances of breaking a 15-year drought for a victory down under prior to the first ball.

Yet now they are staring down the barrel of prolonging a streak without victory in the country to 19 games when the next match starts in Melbourne on Thursday, 25 December.

The tourists - and their fans - will be hoping to sidestep a clean sweep.

One sibling noted the "entertainment" of head coach the positive style of play in the past couple of seasons had "brought fresh energy to" Test cricket for England fans.

Yet the fans said they had minimal hopes for the remaining matches - and all they are hoping for from the players is "a bit of fight".

"Every pundit points it out, but it all is about psychological strength. 'Bazball' has been become a phrase now that is just, like, unrealistic play," commented another sibling.

"In a five-day Test match, you should dig in. Playing at deliveries 'outside the line has never featured in the coaching manuals, and that is mainly the fault the frontline batsmen."

Future Prospects

Prompted about he believed England will triumph in a Test in the current series, Sam said: "The evidence suggests the Aussies are just too good right now."

"There is going to have to be more than one player that makes a significant contribution and turns the game."

Even with the series lost, the fans are looking forward to the trip.

"It will be a great time nonetheless," said Katie. "We must adopt that outlook."

"Of course, it's disappointing we can't contest the series, but we have spent so much money by now."

"We'll enjoy having Christmas and New Year in Australia. Additionally, it's mine and Rory's first time away from home during the festive period."

A teacher, Katie is intent on maximizing the 21,000-mile round-trip as part of her seasonal break.

"Should the cricket disappoint, I've got golf to rely on," Katie concluded.
