In a move inspired by TV series guards, Denmark's foreign ministry has created a nighttime monitoring team—not guarding against mythical threats, but to track Donald Trump while Denmark is asleep.

The night monitoring starts at 5pm local time daily and ends with a summary compiled at 7am, which is then circulated across the Danish government and concerned agencies covering statements made and developments that occurred.

This position is understood to have been established following the bilateral row between Denmark and Washington regarding Greenland earlier this year, when the American leader suggested acquiring control of the resource-rich territory.

Observers note that this measure is among several examples of how Danish diplomacy and its government administration have had to adapt to the new reality of the Trump's current term.

A source familiar with the ministry stated, “It is fair to say that the situation in Greenland and the time zone gap between Copenhagen and the US were quite an important factor introducing this system in the spring.”

Instead of everybody needing to immediately check their devices to stay informed on news from the US, the ministry said it had made a collective effort to remain informed on Trump activities.

Jacob Kaarsbo, a ex- chief analyst at the Danish defence intelligence agency, commented that this development showed, “as long understood,” that the notion of the United States as Denmark’s largest and most important ally was no longer valid. “Partnerships are built on common values and a common threat perception,” he added. “Trump shares neither of those with Denmark and I would argue he doesn't share it with the majority of Europe.”
