Arsenal's manager remains confident that his team can keep managing with fitness issues following confirming that star striker Kai Havertz remains out for several more weeks.

Extended Absence for German Star

Havertz has been sidelined since August following knee surgery. Originally slated to be available sooner, Arteta explained the player faced a hurdle when increasing his recovery and failed to reach “the next phase.”

“We learned, and we were able to put together a team that is far more dependable and has increased versatility,” commented Arteta.

Selection Dilemma for Brentford Clash

This development leaves a selection headache for the midweek fixture at the Emirates against Brentford. A decision is required between continuing to use Mikel Merino, who got a goal as a makeshift striker last weekend, or recalling Viktor Gyökeres, who made a return off the bench off the bench. Long-term absentee Gabriel Jesus remains available post-recovery.

Fitness Doubts Persist

Additional concerns surround centre-back William Saliba and attacker Leandro Trossard, who both missed the Stamford Bridge game. As a result, summer signings Cristhian Mosquera and Piero Hincapié are likely to keep their places in the heart of the defence for the league leaders.

Arteta feels the significant outlay on reinforcements during the summer has left Arsenal in a much stronger position to handle such setbacks.

Squad Depth Vital for Premier League Pursuit

In response if a larger pool of players was benefiting their championship push, Arteta was emphatic. “Absolutely, since the current term has been worse in the attacking line, and now what’s happening with the backline,” he continued.

“Our previous experiences taught us that we have to use players in different positions, and they must be capable to fulfil different roles if we are to fight at the top. And the example of Mikel Merino.”

Manager’s Sympathy for Suffering Havertz

Speaking about the setback highlighted by national team coach Julian Nagelsmann, Arteta provided additional context. “He followed all protocols. He was unable to progress to the subsequent stage and now it’s looking like we have unlocked that.”

Arteta expressed his keenness to have him back. “The team is keen to have him. Truly, he is a footballer who, in my view, I value highly for his contributions to the team, but his character, his nature. I observe his frustration being outside.”

“His availability record is exceptional, he's usually fit, and I am eagerly awaiting to have him back involved on the pitch because I feel it’s going to be a significant uplift.”
