The ex-lawyer for the former president has left her position as the US Attorney for New Jersey. This follows a court battle that questioned her right to hold the office.

Attorney General's Statement

US Attorney General, Pam Bondi, accepted her stepping down on the start of the week. In a statement that the appeals court finding made it unworkable for Habba to perform her duties.

"Do not interpret compliance for surrender," she declared. "This battle will now extend throughout the country."

Judicial Challenge

Habba's exit comes a week after a judicial panel determined that she had been acting without proper authority as the top prosecutor. This ruling is could influence numerous criminal cases in the state.

The judicial panel said that a temporary posting that did not receive the advice and consent of the Senate ran afoul of the federal law governing appointments.

Future Role and Reaction

The Attorney General added that she will continue working within the justice department as a senior adviser. They intend to challenge the decision of the court's action, aiming for a overturned decision.

In a statement, the Attorney General wrote that the court "should not be able to override the appointment of prosecutors entrusted with executing the fundamental role of the presidency of prosecuting crime."

Record and Legacy

She commended Habba's record and said that under her leadership, the city of Newark saw a significant drop in crime. Additionally that the Camden recorded its first summer in half a century with no murders.

Connection to Donald Trump

Habba, first joined Donald Trump's lawyers in recent years. She later represented the former president in his hush-money trial in New York last year, leading to his guilty verdict on dozens of charges of document fraud.

Before assuming the federal prosecutor position, Donald Trump had revealed he was selecting her as his presidential counsellor in a potential future term, calling her as deeply loyal and a "tireless advocate for justice".
